Winter Storm Argos 2016
Winter Storm Argos blew in November 18 with a furry and quickly turned from a winter storm to a blizzard. Outages began as the heavy wet snow brought trees down on power lines. By 2:30pm with blizzard conditions of 35+ mph winds, icy roads and visibility to almost nothing, we closed our offices. But, with 2,000 members out of power our line crews continued to work on restoration. Sadly, by dark, impassable roads emphasized by emergency vehicles in the ditches and the Sheriff department ready to use snowmobiles for emergency rescues, our crews had to get off the roads for the evening leaving 4,500 members out of power. The crack of dawn Saturday morning our crews along with help from Lake Region Electric Coop of Pelican Rapids, East Central Energy of Braham and Wild Rice Electric Coop from Mahnomen were out working to restore the now 6,500 members. Battling 16+” of snow, downed trees and limbs along with the cold our crews had the number of outages down to 700 Saturday night, and by Sunday night we had lights back on to all of our members. It was another monumental effort put forth by our remarkable crews, in unforgiving conditions to restore power. We thank them and we thank our members for their patience, support and understanding. Winter Storm Argos is another storm added to the books in a year of relentless weather.
