Our base load electricity, or the minimum amount of power needed to serve all in the Great River Energy system, (our wholesale power supplier), comes mostly from a coal-fired generation plant at Coal Creek station, north of Bismarck, North Dakota. Coal Creek has been lauded as the fifth most efficient coal fired power plant in the United States.
Crow Wing Power is a distribution cooperative, delivering power to homes and businesses. We purchase wholesale power from a generation and transmission cooperative, Great River Energy (GRE) in Elk River.
