from gasoline to the fuels we use to generate electricity. Tax incentives passed in the federal 2008 Emergency Economic Stabilization Act, or Bailout Bill, includes tax credits for homeowners, governments, businesses and utilities. All are listed in Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency on the Energy Star Web page and include:
Residential Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
- Up to $500 available for energy-efficient windows, doors, roofs, insulation, high efficiency appliances including HVAC.
- 30% for solar electric systems.
- Up to $4,000 for small wind systems.
- U to $2,000 available for geothermal heat pumps (retroactive to Jan. 1, 2008
Business and Construction
- Up to $1.80 per square foot through 2013 for energy conservation improvements
- Phased-in credits for sale or lease of new hybrid cars or trucks utilizing gas-electric, alternative-fuel, diesel, fuel-cell power
- $2500 to $75000 for plug-in cars and light trucks when vehicles available.
