2026 Rate Increase

Key Takeaways

Investing in Reliability and Safety

This rate increase supports critical infrastructure, technology upgrades and ongoing maintenance to keep your power safe and dependable.

Strengthening Our Cooperative

The increase helps maintain the financial strength of Crow Wing Power, allowing us to reinvest in system improvements and responsibly manage rising costs.

Preparing for Today and Tomorrow's Energy Needs

Rising inflation, growing energy demand and the upcoming wholesale power increase are key drivers of this increase. Basin Electric is investing in generation, transmission and maintenance projects over the next 10 years, ensuring a more reliable energy future.

Starting January 1, 2026, members will see an increase to both the base charge and the per kWh rate, which will be reflected on their February bill. This increase helps the Cooperative balance rising costs while continuing to invest in infrastructure, reliability and the long-term financial health of our organization. We understand that any increase impacts households, and we're commited to keeping members informed. On this page, you'll find a service chart outlining the updated rates, a list of frequently asked questions and educational resources to help you understand your energy use. You can also explore our website for energy-saving programs designed for members and visit our Energy Experts blog for tips on adjusting your habits to help lower your monthly bill.

Safety is at the center of everything we do, and it drives our commitment to a reliable electric system. As part of our four-year construction work plan, we are preparing for the replacement or installation of approximately 3,000 transformers, investing in substation projects for Hardy Lake and Lastrup, and advancing a large three-phase cable replacement project. We are also updating critical technology systems, strengthening cybersecurity, and investing in our vehicle fleet so our crews can respond quickly and safely.

We continue to enhance our right-of-way program to reduce outages and are advancing our facility planning efforts to ensure our cooperative is prepared to meet the needs of members and employees. These investments also include expanding our SCADA system, which provides a centralized platform to monitor, control, and automate our power grid operations. This technology strengthens reliability, improves efficiency, and supports real-time decision-making to better serve our members.

Crow Wing Power offers a variety of programs and technologies to help members manage electricity use, save money, and maintain reliable service. Visit our Programs & Rebates page to explore options that fit your needs.

Take advantage of rebates to make small or large energy-efficiency upgrades. These improvements can reduce your long-term energy costs, and members may receive a bill credit or check once the upgrade is installed.

Stay informed and get practical tips by following us on social media or checking out our Energy Experts blog, where you’ll find simple habit changes that can have a meaningful impact on your energy use and monthly bill.

Basin Electric is thoughtfully working to balance our goals of reliability, financial performance, and affordable rates.
