Crow Wing Power announces the retirement of Bruce Kraemer, Chief Executive Officer, whose visionary leadership has shaped the Cooperative for the past five decades. Bruce’s career began in 1975 as a groundsman, and he held numerous critical roles before becoming General Manager/Chief Executive Officer in 1995.

Bruce’s tenure is marked by significant achievements, including a 22% rate reduction in the mid-1990s due to strategic diversification efforts. He led the establishment of People’s Security, Crow Wing Power Credit Union, and other ventures that strengthened the Cooperative’s financial stability.

Technological adoptions were essential during Bruce’s leadership. Under his guidance, cooperative members transitioned from self-reporting meters to the implementation of the Turtle, invented by Paul Hunt, which reported meter readings back to the Cooperative. Most recently, the cooperative adopted the advanced Tantalus system, which provides real-time readings. He ensured that Crow Wing Power consistently remained at the forefront of industry advancements.

Bruce’s contributions extend beyond his CEO duties. He played a key role in forming Great River Energy from United Power and Co-operative Power, chaired the Member Managers Group, and served on many boards and committees within the community, reflecting his influence beyond Crow Wing Power.

A core principle of his leadership has been to place the right people in the right roles and support their success. This approach has contributed to many achievements that have made Crow Wing Power a model for electric cooperatives across the country. Bruce expresses deep gratitude to all members, staff, and the community for their help, support, and dedication throughout the years.

“The Board of Directors wishes Bruce Kraemer well in his retirement. We want to thank him for his dedication, time, and achievements at the cooperative,” said Mark Ronnei, Board President.

As Bruce retires, Eric Quale has assumed the role of CEO until a search for a permanent successor begins. Quale has been with Crow Wing Power since 2008 and serves as Chief Operating Officer.

Crow Wing Power thanks Bruce for decades of outstanding service and wishes him all the best in his retirement.
